Welcome to the Building Peace Initiative
Mission Statement:
We will raise awareness about the concept of peace and support the study and practice of the discipline of peace as the preferred option for co-existing peacefully and sustainably. We will provide forums, including formal education, so people can have a free and considerate exchange of ideas as we seek a more peaceful world. We will support human rights and equal opportunity for all people, assisting them in realizing their full potential.
As an introductory note, people have many misconceptions about the “P” word (Peace). False stereotypes abound and people who practice peace are often seen as naive, weak, and or hopelessly idealistic. We are here to change that and present peace as a science that takes a lot of courage to study and practice. So when you are challenged, feel free to mention Martin Luther King Jr., Mohandas Gandhi, Nadia Murad, Wangari Maathai, Albert Einstein, Maria, Ressa, Thomas Merton, Desmond Tutu and the thousands of other people and organizations that have shown tremendous courage as they worked for a more peaceful world. Be an informed, assertive voice in the world and do what you can to make it more just and peaceful.
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
-Desmond Tutu
