4/26/21 – Weekly Post: “The Armenian Genocide”

I am starting to prepare to teach SOC 101 A – Sociology of Human Rights in the Fall 2021 semester   The fact that the Armenian Genocide has been recognized is an important event.  It is a major step in raising awareness about human rights and the processes, such as discrimination and racism, that have led to some of the worst human rights violations in history.  It is the existence of structural violence that lays the foundation for such atrocities.  As I write this the Rohingya, Nuer and other groups in the Sudan, Yazidis in Iraq, and Uyghurs in China are being subjected to Genocide.  What can you do about it?  Getting involved with Amnesty International and/or Human Rights Watch is a great start.

“We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” -Martin Luther King Jr.

When the rights of one person are violated, especially the most vulnerable, then we are all diminished. .https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/biden-recognizes-armenian-genocide-rally-planned-in-beverly-hills/2580945/
