10/21/19 – Weekly Post: “United Nations Day”

Weekly Post:  10/14/19 is United Nations Day.  The establishment of the UN was a monumental step towards a more just and equitable world.  The UN does a great job in many areas and as you will discover is involved in more than you are aware of. But the usual vagaries of self-interest have thwarted the potential for the UN to reach it goals and the US certainly has been one of the offenders, along with the four other permanent Security Council members: China, France, the United Kingdom, and Russia. Any of these members can veto a resolution no matter how many other countries support it.  This needs to change.  No country should have more power than another when it comes to voting at the UN otherwise it becomes just another oligarchy.  In any case take some time to become acquainted with the UN and perhaps we can find a way to move it in the direction of what it was actually intend to accomplish.
