10/15/19 – Biweekly Blog: Celebrating Thich Nhat Hans’s 93rd “Continuation Day”

A lot changed for me when I met Thich Nhat Hanh and his Monks in October 2007 at a Retreat at Blue Cliff Monastery. They helped me to rekindle my belief that peace is indeed possible through practicing compassion and mindfulness. Although I do not consider myself a Buddhist their approach, practicing the Five or Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings, is a powerful tool for creating a more just and peaceful world. Their practice of Engaged Buddhism is worth exploring. A good start is acquainting yourself with them and reading some of his books such as the “Miracle of Mindfulness” and my favorite: “Creating True Peace: Ending the Violence in Yourself, Your Family, Your Community, and the World'”

Here is a poem that has always touched me and helped me through some of my more difficult days.
