Enjoy This Week’s Post: In the early 2000’s I spoke at Conferences at Fordham University several times about the effects of cumulative trauma on psychological development. My perspective was a lot of people diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, Attention Deficit, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and many other diagnosis were suffering from anxiety and depression and needed to be understood as such. I also addressed the effects of socioeconomic status, race, and gender and how it influences our diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Our social environment strongly influences how we will express our suffering and needs to be considered when attempting to understand someone. ACE (Acute Childhood Experiences) is getting a lot of attention now. We need to take the time to understand the person rather than attaching labels to them.
