It’s Martin Luther King Jr Day. Take some time to listen to one of his speeches. My favorite is “Beyond Vietnam”. His words still ring true. Here are two of his quotes that are particularly relevant and a movement that is addressing many of the issues he raised.
“We as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. . . . When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, extreme materialism and militarism are incapable of being conquered.”
“Racism, extreme materialism and militarism” were inextricably linked. “A nation,” he warned, “that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
